Engineering Plastic Introduction

Engineering Plastic

Engineering plastics are a class of high-performance synthetic materials renowned for their excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability. They are widely used in industrial applications as replacements for traditional materials like metals and ceramics. Compared to general-purpose plastics (such as PE and PP), engineering plastics can withstand more demanding physical and chemical environments.

Material Features

1. High Strength and Rigidity: Materials like nylon (PA) and polycarbonate (PC) exhibit excellent tensile strength and impact resistance.
2. High-Temperature Resistance: Capable of long-term use at 100°C~200°C (e.g., PEEK can withstand temperatures up to 250°C).
3. Chemical Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to oils, acids, alkalis, and other media (e.g., PTFE is nearly insoluble in any solvent).
4. Wear Resistance and Self-Lubrication: Materials like polyoxymethylene (POM) have a low friction coefficient, making them ideal for gears and bearings.
5. Dimensional Stability: Low creep and minimal deformation under heat or pressure (e.g., PPS).
6. Electrical Insulation: Suitable for electronic components (e.g., LCP used in high-frequency connectors).

Application

1. Automotive Industry: Lightweight components (fuel systems, sensors), battery brackets for new energy vehicles.
2. Electronics & Electrical Appliances: Insulating casings (for mobile phones, laptops), high-frequency circuit boards.
3. Mechanical Engineering: Wear-resistant gears, bearings, and guide rails.
4. Medical Equipment: Sterilizable instruments, artificial joints (PEEK).
5. Aerospace: High-temperature-resistant conduits, cabin structural components.
6. Other Industrial Fields (construction, furniture, household items, toys, etc.).
