LFT-G refers to a class of long fiber reinforced thermoplastics produced through direct fiber impregnation and pelletizing. Continuous glass fiber or carbon fiber is fully impregnated in a molten thermoplastic matrix and then pelletized. This process delivers high-performance structural materials with outstanding mechanical properties, widely used in lightweight and high-strength applications.
Recyclability: Thermally reprocessable, with some loss of mechanical properties after recycling.

Material Features

  • High fiber length retention, enabling superior reinforcement effect
  • Excellent mechanical strength and impact resistance
  • Outstanding dimensional stability and low warpage
  • Compatible with various resins including PP, PA6, PA66, PBT, TPU, PPS
  • Good processability for injection molding and compression molding

Application

  • Lightweight automotive structural components (bumper beams, door modules, foot pedals)
  • Electrical enclosures, tool housings
  • Industrial support brackets and casings
  • High-strength building and construction parts

Recommended Equipment & Processing Notes

Specialized LFT-G production lines with stable fiber towing and high-efficiency resin impregnation are recommended. Accurate tension control and precise length cutting are essential for consistent performance. The die system should be optimized for uniform resin flow to ensure full fiber wet-out.
To improve fiber retention, the line should feature stable temperature control and gentle shear processing to minimize fiber damage. Anti-entanglement devices and independent cutter units are recommended for controlled bundle separation and low-tension cutting.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Does the number of fibers affect the choice of LFT-G process?
A: Yes. For 5–30 strands, the die impregnation method is feasible. For 40 or more strands, the melt-bath method is recommended due to better resin immersion and fiber dispersion.

Q: What matrix materials are compatible with LFT-G processing?
A: LFT-G can be produced using various thermoplastics such as PP, PA6, PA66, PBT, TPU, PPS, and others. Equipment and process parameters can be customized to match the resin type and end-use requirements.
