Why is Beyou’s Melt Pool Impregnation Technology Gaining Increasing Attention in LFT-G Production?

With the development of lightweight vehicles, new energy vehicles, and high-performance plastics, long fiber reinforced thermoplastics are being widely used due to their excellent strength, stiffness, and impact resistance.

In LFT-G (Long Fiber Thermoplastic Granules) production, achieving good impregnation between resin and continuous fibers while maintaining fiber length is essential for material performance and production efficiency.

Based on different material systems and application requirements, Beyou provides two impregnation solutions: Melt Pool Impregnation and Mold Impregnation. Among them, Beyou’s Melt Pool Impregnation technology has gained increasing attention for its efficient impregnation process and stable production performance.

Key Factors in Long Fiber Reinforced Material Production

The performance of long fiber reinforced materials largely depends on the uniform distribution of reinforcing fibers within the polymer matrix and the effective retention of fiber length.

During LFT-G production, several key factors need to be considered:

  • Good fiber impregnation:
Ensuring the resin fully surrounds and penetrates the fibers, improving the bonding between the resin and fibers.
  • Effective fiber length retention:
Reducing fiber damage during processing to maximize the performance advantages of long fiber reinforced materials.
  • Stable production process:
Maintaining consistent material quality to meet the requirements of continuous production.

Insufficient impregnation may weaken the interaction between the resin and fibers, resulting in reduced material performance and stability. On the other hand, excessive shear during processing can shorten fiber length and reduce the reinforcing effect.

Therefore, selecting the right impregnation process is essential for producing high-quality LFT materials. Good impregnation not only improves material performance but also enhances pellet quality consistency, providing a more reliable material foundation for downstream applications.

Working Process of Melt Pool Impregnation Technology

Working Process of Melt Pool Impregnation Technology

First, in the twin screw extruder, raw materials are conveyed, mixed, and plasticized to form a uniform and stable polymer melt, providing the foundation for fiber impregnation.

At the same time, continuous glass fibers are supplied from the creel and pass through a preheating oven to improve the impregnation efficiency.

The continuous fibers then enter the melt pool, where they are impregnated by the molten resin. The resin fully surrounds the fibers, forming a stable fiber-reinforced structure.

After impregnation, the composite material passes through a cooling water bath for shaping, followed by a drying unit, haul-off unit, and pelletizer to complete cooling, conveying, and pelletizing. Finally, the LFT-G pellets are screened by a vibrating sieve to ensure uniform pellet size and consistent quality.

Through this continuous production process, Beyou’s Melt Pool Impregnation technology enables effective bonding between the resin and continuous fibers. While maintaining fiber length, it helps improve material performance and production stability.

Advantages of Beyou Melt Pool Impregnation Technology

  • Continuous fiber feeding and replacement without shutdown
Supports fiber threading and fiber replacement during operation, reducing downtime, improving production efficiency, and minimizing material waste.
  • High-speed and stable production for large-scale applications
The production line speed can reach up to 60 m/min. Higher line speed improves production efficiency and meets the requirements for continuous and large-volume manufacturing.
  • Excellent impregnation performance for improved material properties
The melt pool impregnation process allows the resin to fully contact and penetrate the continuous fibers. The impregnation rate can reach over 95%, helping improve material consistency and reinforcement performance.
  • Flexible adaptation to different fiber content requirements
Fiber content can be adjusted from 10% to 70%according to different application requirements, providing solutions for automotive, new energy, engineering plastics, and other fields.
  • Reduced production waste and improved material utilization
Optimized process design keeps material loss below 0.5%, helping customers reduce production costs and improve material utilization.

With these technical advantages, Beyou’s Melt Pool Impregnation technology provides reliable support for LFT-G long fiber reinforced material production. Its continuous operation, efficient impregnation, and stable performance help customers achieve higher-quality and more efficient manufacturing.
